Our digital footprints are the traces we leave behind when we use the internet, and as an artist, it is important to have an active persona online in order to be accessible and relevant to as big of an audience as possible. As the world continues to turn digital, one thing every artist needs to have is a digital portfolio, for both personal and public use. With a digital portfolio, artists now have the ability to monitor their growth as well as have a platform in which they can showcase their art on a huge scale.
As an aspiring artist and a student, it is important for me to begin documenting my artwork now so that in the future I can look back on my artistic journey and see the progress I have made. This can be a huge motivator as I continue to pursue the arts and develop my skills.
Most importantly, however, artists can use a digital portfolio to reach a wider audience and potential employers. This is especially relevant for freelance artists who need to know how to advertise and promote themselves in order to get work. A digital portfolio offers an artist visibility to people all over the world as well as the opportunity to make professional connections with other artists, companies, and more. Not only that but having a digital portfolio could also play a key role in marketing yourself and selling your artwork. Many galleries request submissions in a digital format, and having high-quality images of all of your artwork in one place can make them easier to find, as well as offer the opportunity to make and sell prints of some of your pieces.
Social media can be a great networking tool, but a digital portfolio is vital for artists, providing a professional digital gallery that can be accessed by millions.
